When dnndev.com moved from the Evoq edition of DNN back to Community, the Q&A and discussion modules didn't come along. Instead, we built both from scratch in XMod Pro — and improved them in the process. Up-voting answers and threaded replies made the jump. Markdown editing, inline and code blocks, better tag creation, and overall better UX were part of the rebuild. To be fair, it wasn't a 5 minute job — but it took far less time than programming it from scratch, because we could leverage all the functionality XMod Pro provides out of the box. It's the kind of substantial work XMod Pro is built to handle.

Your data. Whatever you need to track, in whatever shape you need it. XMod Pro reads and writes the DNN database directly — and other SQL Server databases too, when the data lives elsewhere. Tables you already have, stored procedures you've already written, views you've already tuned. Nothing about what a record looks like, or which fields matter, is decided for you.

Your layout. Forms look the way you want them to look. Output looks the way you want it to look. Your HTML, your CSS, your class names — no module-author styling to override, no "theme" to work around.

Your rules. Which fields are required. What gets validated and how. What happens on submit. What filters appear. What columns show up in what order. What gates the data behind which roles. None of it is a default you have to fight. It's whatever you decide it should be.

Projects New

An optional organizing layer. Group related forms, views, and feeds under one project with a friendly name and a description.
Open everything at once. Click "Open All Resources" and every resource in the project loads as a tab — no more hunting through your forms, views, and feeds lists.
Find them fast. Search projects, filter by portal or global scope, sort by name or date. Each project carries searchable notes you can use to remind future-you (or a teammate) what it's for.

Database Tools grew up

Create new tables. Define columns, types, sizes, keys, and defaults right in XMod Pro. In v4 this was all you could do.
Edit existing tables. Add and remove columns, change data types. New

Backup and Versioning New

Auto-backup. Every resource is backed up when you first open it and every time you save.
Versioning settings. Turn versioning on or off, set how many versions to keep, and auto-delete older ones to save space.
Version history. Compare any two versions and see exactly what changed.

The short answers.

Do I need to know .NET?

No. XMod Pro is built around its own focused templating language, designed for exactly this kind of work. HTML helps for views, feeds, and custom HTML layout forms. If you build with the Form Builder, you don't even need that. Your data is the same way — visual tools for tables, queries, and relationships, with SQL there when you want more control.

Which DNN versions does v5 support?

DNN 9.2 and later in the 9.x line, and DNN 10 and later. Older XMod Pro builds for DNN 5.x through 9.1 are still available to download for existing license holders — they're just not sold as new.

What database does it need?

SQL Server. You can access both the DNN database and external SQL Server databases.

Can I really try it before I buy?
