The Wait Is Finally Over. XMod 5 Has Arrived!

Since release of version 1.0 in 2004, XMod has been on the Bestseller charts because it provides you with the power and flexibility you need to create solutions for your DotNetNuke site in a fraction of the time and money it would take to create a custom programmed module.

The new features and improvements in XMod 5 are driven by three factors: Ease-Of-Use, Flexibility and Expandability.

Easier To Use

With every version of XMod, we try to add features that make it easier to use. XMod 5 includes two new significant additions:

  • Form Builder: Novices and Pro's alike will appreciate the new Form Builder for quickly creating and editing auto-layout data-entry forms. Add and edit form controls with a few clicks. Even re-order them using drag-and-drop.
     
  • Rich Text Template Editor: Ease-of-use extends to display template editing as well. Our new rich text editor for templates allows you to approach your template editing much as you would using a word processor. Need to edit an XMod tag? Just select it a click a link to pop-up it's designer.
     

Greater Flexibility

XMod is already one fo the most flexible modules available for DotNetNuke and version 5 goes even further. 

  • Dynamic Localization:  XMod 5 takes a big leap forward for international users who need to support multiple languages. You've been able to localize XMod's administrative text and other items (such as dates) for some time. Version 5 now enables you to dynamically switch the captions, text, even styles and Javascript values based on the currently selected language for your site.
     
  • Completely Customizable Displays: The new Repeater template type gives you complete control over the HTML that is generated for your list-type template. Not only can you generate semantic markup but we've added some additional enhancements so you can easily combine your display with CSS and even other Javascript libraries to create some spectacular layouts.
     
  • Even More Display Options:  That's just the beginning. XMod 5 enables you to display your data in random order, scrolling across the screen, and even create a What's New listing. This list is just a highlight, see a more complete list of features.
     

Increased Expandability

Developers will love the  new options gives you to  customize XMod.

  • Custom Data Sources: By building a Data Manager you hook XMod to the data source of your choice, whether it's another table, another database, an RSS feed, a web service, or something else. We include a developers guide and starter code, plus a full implementation of a manager we wrote to link to the User Defined Table module. If other community members could use your manager we encourage you to distribute it for free or for sale.
     
  • Custom Display Template Controls: Link XMod to other modules on your page. Integrate it with Google Maps. Add social bookmarking, special text formatting, nifty visual effects, or whatever else you can imagine. XMod templates now accept custom web server controls and since these controls don't require any special XMod code, you can use your own or even off-the-shelf controls.

So, what is XMod? It's what you make from it. To create your own application, all you do is tell XMod the data you want to collect and how to display it. XMod will then use that information to create data entry forms, pageable lists displaying your records, and detail views that display a record's detailed data.
