Greetings fellow Xmodders!
I've been busy working on the Xmod powered dating site I promised, but in the meantime I figured I better make an appearance.
Greetings fellow Xmodders!
I've been busy working on the Xmod powered dating site I promised, but in the meantime I figured I better make an appearance.
Actually, Kelly had to slap me back into reality and let me know how long it's been since I last posted. (Isn't it funny how time flies when your having fun!)
Anyway back to business.
Today I'm going to outline how to take advantage of Xmod's template feature for easy implementation of site wide discounts.
OK, let's back up. This trick assumes that you have built a store of some sort with Xmod (or you plan to). While implementing the form for your item descriptions add an extra price field labeled “sale price” or something similar. Then when you add items to your store, fill in the additional “sale” field with your sale price for the item.
Now back to the template side, where the magic happens. Once you have created your list and detail templates for showing off your super cool store items (while totally ignoring the “sale price” field you had created in your form), make a copy of each and name the new templates something descriptive to indicate a sale.
In these two new templates change out your regular price field with the “sale price” field you had created in your form.
Now all you have to do when you want to have a store-wide “sale” is switch the regular display templates with the sale ones and all your sale prices will be visible without having to manually edit each store item. Super slick, and makes having a site-wide sale easy as clicking on a new template!
Until next time...
